Sven A. Klos (1963) was educated at the universities of Amsterdam and San Diego. Having earned his degree in 1988, he qualified for the Bar and began practicing in intellectual property litigation in 1989. He became partner in the IP department of the firm Nauta Dutilh in 1996, and, before founding Klos Morel Vos & Schaap, spent two years as a partner of Allen & Overy.
Sven is widely regarded as a fierce and tough litigator and is described by Chambers Guide to the World’s Leading Lawyers as an attorney who is ‘not just technically good’ but one who ‘really fights for his clients’. His practice extends over a remarkably broad range of IP matters. He has successfully litigated a significant number of patent infringement and know-how cases regarding complex mechanical devices as well as chemicals and chemical process technology. His extensive trademark litigation practice sees him representing a number of major names in the food, fashion and entertainment industries. In addition to all of this, Sven has an emphasis on copyright and database matters.
Sven has published and lectured on a wide variety of topics, such as copyright aspects of multimedia, sports marketing, damages proceedings in intellectual property matters, sport and intellectual property, the Database Directive, cross border injunctions in trademark infringement cases, non-traditional trademarks, licensing contracts, character merchandising and the interface between competition law and intellectual property law. Sven is the author of the acclaimed copyright, neighboring rights and database right chapters in the leading Dutch intellectual property handbook ‘Kort Begrip van het Intellectuele Eigendomsrecht’. Sven is active as a guest lecturer at the universities of Rotterdam and Nijmegen, teaches at the professional training courses for patent attorneys and trademark agents, has been a member of various ALAI study groups, serves on the INTA Parallel Import Subcommittee, is a member of the board of the Dutch chapter of the LIDC and the editorial board of the European Copyright and Design Right Review.
Sven is listed as a leader in his field in various guides, such as Pritchard and Chambers.
